SEPTEMBER 2008
COMMANDER: Greetings everyone. Post 327 was presented two 2007-2008 District (Large post) awards at the 2nd District Conference last month, one for C&Y and the other for Americanism. Thanks to Gus Anderson for the C&Y input and to all who donated money to our fundraisers for these programs. Thanks to our 2nd VCDR Mike Bukowski for filling in for the Adjutant at our August Post meeting. For God & Country, B. J. Miller
FIRST
VICE COMMANDER: Well folks, I’ve been a little slack
on my newsletter notes. So here goes.
Congratulations to all you folks that have already renewed. You
reached the August goal of 35% and September’s 50%. You kept me
pretty busy getting all this in to Department and National, but I
volunteered for the job. Keep the renewals coming in. On top of
that, sign up your neighbor or the guy you play golf with, or the
guy you work with. Let’s all go way over the top this year. Keep
me busy. For God and Country, Skip Kelly
SECOND VICE COMMANDER: First, I would like to offer a big THANK YOU to all the volunteers that helped out at the Independence Day picnic. It was a huge success due to your participation. The Labor Day picnic will fall on Sunday, August 31st this year. Picnic will run from Noon to 6:00 p.m. Food will start serving at 1:00 p.m. and run until 5:00 p.m. Bring a dish that serves ten or more people and get in free. Also, at the Labor Day picnic those with the Early Bird stamp on their membership card get in free. I am planning on adding fried fish to the menu, along with the usual hamburgers, hot dogs and sausages. Do you have some summer veggies in your garden? Bring in some bell peppers and/or onions, and we’ll grill them up on the side for the sausages. If you can, please think about volunteering. We can always use folks for set up, beer tapping, preparing and running food, and especially tear down and clean up. Hope to see you there! For God and Country, Mike Bukowski
CHAPLAIN: Post Everlasting will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 September for Legionnaire Robert Hanna. Family and friends are invited to attend. For God and Country, Rob Edwards
FINANCE OFFICER: YOUR ANNUAL DUES ARE IMPORTANT because they are the only source of income for the Post besides fundraisers and donations. Your dues are the source of funds for all of the picnics and, Christmas party, etc. This all is from our “General Fund”. The faster members pay their 2008-2009 dues, the ability of your Post Officers to know if we will have enough funds to meet the approved budget is enhanced. Your cooperation is encouraged. Thank you. For God & Country, Ray Steckman
ATHLETIC OFFICER: Due to the rain, the Senior 327 team did not get to play in the tournament. They finished the season with 2 wins and 15 losses. For God and Country, Jim Norton
AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY PRESIDENT: Hi! It’s hard to believe that summer is almost over. Several of us went to the American Legion Leadership College the first weekend of August. It was very informative, and we all got our diplomas. Don’t forget the Labor Day picnic, and please bring a dish to feed approximately 10 people. There will be face painting for the kids plus pony rides and a petting zoo. On Labor Day we will be appearing on the MDA Telethon. On September 5th the Auxiliary will be serving a New England boiled dinner. On September 26th we will be doing our annual Spaghetti dinner and floor show, so please come out and support our children and youth program. Our membership is progressing nicely, but we need your help to make our 100% goal. You may renew at any time – the sooner the better. We have a 50% goal by September 15th. Please renew now so that we can reach that goal. Renewal is $25.00, and you can send a check in care of ALA to the Post. Get well wishes go out to Rose Pearson, DeDee French (Gotta), and Sharon Bukowski. We hope they are all feeling better soon. We now have an email address. If you would like to contact us, our email address is ala327@yahoo.com. Send us your email or email us if you have any questions or concerns. For God and Country, Nancy Bell
SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER: Greetings Comrades! Congratulations go out to Michael Smith, James Doty and Charlie Gower for completing their first session at the Virginia Leadership College. They, along with myself, were taught an updated version of the training focusing on the things we need to know as future leaders. Jeff Evans did a great job as a first-year instructor. The Poker Run last month netted a little over $2,000.00. I'm trying to line up some media coverage for a formal presentation at the Fisher House. Again, I would like to thank all who helped out, and we are looking forward to next year having the Legion Riders working together with us to make it the best yet. This month we also are donating $500.00 to M.D.A. AND $300.00 to Oakmont Elementary School for supplies for the needy children. We will be serving a Meatloaf Dinner on Sept. 19th. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. with orders taken at 5:45 p.m. Most of us working the dinners have to work all day, and we try our best to have things ready on time. Please have patience and continue to support the weekly dinners as it helps with all the donations we all make. If you who still have a 2008 card, you need to get your renewal ASAP in order to eat free at the Labor Day Picnic. Hope to see all of you there. For God & Country, Steve Gower, Sr.

HUMOR: From my email –After retiring, I went to the Social Security office. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver’s license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, “Unbutton your shirt”. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, “That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me, and she processed my Social Security application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, “You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten disability too” And then the fight started.
