Back SEPTEMBER 2005 COMMANDER’S CORNER: Hello again. Hope this finds everyone doing well. Due to a “glitch” in the office, we didn’t not make our August membership goal. That’s my fault, and it won’t happen again. We stand a very good chance of making our September goal, a dang good chance, but let’s not drop the ball. PLEASE keep those memberships coming in. On Saturday, September 10th from 10:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., we will have our 4th annual auto/truck/motorcycle show, so please come out and support these guys. If it has wheels bring it on down and share with us that old feeling of days gone by when you could crank up the radio. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be on sale. Music will be provided by Gary and the LIL GTOs. Please register with Jimmy Taylor or Larry Turner by E-mail at TURNERMLARRY@aol.com or jftalor@exis.net . A $5.00 registration fee will be collected for each vehicle entered to benefit Boys/Girls State. Also, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 327 will have a bake sale at the car show (yum, yum) come get you some. Proceeds go to the ALA Past Presidents parlay. Remember in order to use the Post pavilion, you must have the Club Manager’s permission. Please remember to TURN OFF THE LIGHTS and CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES. Until next time, For God and Country, Jim Dunning FIRST VICE COMMANDER: Greetings, Fellow Legionnaires. Membership is slowly coming around. We are at about 40%. I would like to get your renewals as soon as possible. The Commander and I would like to meet September and October’s goals as soon as possible. So get your renewals in. For God and Country, Roy “Skip” Louis, III SECOND VICE COMMANDER: Fellow legionnaires, as you know the 4th of July picnic was a big success. I would like to follow suit and have the Labor Day event go just as well. If you paid your dues early, you can attend for free, AND it’s not too late to get in on the “EARLY BIRD” DEAL. Right up to the day of the picnic, if you pay your dues, you can eat for free! So hunt down our 1st Vice and break out your wallets! If you have not paid your 2006 dues, the fee will be $5.00 at the door. This year’s menu will not be much different from last years. We will have the traditional Whiting fillet fish fry, hot and mild sausages, hot dogs and hamburgers for the kids. Remember, if you bring a covered dish you will also eat for FREE! If you would like to volunteer to help, a sign-up list is posted at the Legion on the door to the meeting hall. This year’s entertainment will be by Mary Frost, whom many of you know from Saturday nights at the Post. She will be setting up for both requested music and karaoke. We will be starting the picnic at 12:00 noon and going until 6:00 p.m. I have duty on Sunday, so I will not be there. I hope everyone can come out and enjoy the last outdoor event of the season. On another subject, I will also be putting on the New Year’s Eve Party this year and welcome any suggestions. I believe, with a little planning ahead, this will be an event all of you will want to attend. For God and Country, Todd Baitis ALA Unit 327 PRESIDENT: Hello Ladies. September is here, and we all know what that means – SCHOOL! Please watch out for the children and buses. Our September meeting will be on the 6th. HUMOR: I received the following email from ETC(SW/AW) Clint Riggins and thought you might enjoy it. Actual Australian court Docket 12659 – “Case of the Pregnant Lady”, A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed that the man sitting opposite of her was smiling at her. She immediately moved to another seat. This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. The man seemed more amused. When on the fourth move, the man burst out laughing, she complained to the driver and he had the man arrested. The case came up in court. The judge asked the man (about 20 years old) what he had to say for himself. The man replied, “Well, Your Honor, it was like this: When the lady got on the bus, I couldn’t help but notice her condition. She sat down under a sign that said, “The Double Mint Twins are coming”, and I grinned. Then she moved and sat under a sign that read, “Logan’s liniment will reduce the swelling”, and I had to smile. Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that read, “William’s Big Stick did the Trick”, and I could hardly contain myself.” But, Your Honor, when she moved the fourth time and sat under a sign that said, “Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this accident,” I just lost it.” CASE DISMISSED! Have a nice day. May God bless each of you with good health and happiness. For God and Country, B.J. Miller-Nobles
