OCTOBER 2005

COMMANDER’S CORNER:  Hello again.  Membership has slowed way down, so please check your card, if it doesn’t have the year 2006 on it, please renew as soon as possible.  We can’t make our quota without your renewals.  We will be holding the oath for all new members and those who haven’t had it yet at the Post 327 Regular meeting at 8:00 p.m. on 9 November, so please attend.  You can’t run for office without it.  Please remember to submit your hours to the Post Adjutant or leave them behind the bar for her.  You may do this weekly or monthly.  If you do something like take a neighbor to the store, the doctor, or in anyway help someone out, turn in the hours, mileage, and any out-of-pocket expenses, and we will submit the reports.  This helps our Legion in many ways.  Thanks to all of you who helped with the Labor Day picnic.  We had a great turn out and finally got the CD radio raffled off.  However, it was donated back to us for another raffle, so you’ll have another chance at it in the near future.  The 2nd District meeting will be held at Post 280 in Great Bridge on 9 October.  Come on out and let’s get the membership banner for Post 327.  The Department Fall Conference will be held 28-30 October in Hampton.  For God and Country, Jim Dunning

FIRST VICE COMMANDER:  NO INPUT! For God and Country, Roy “Skip” Louis, III

2ND VICE COMMANDER:  NO INPUT! For God and Country, Todd Baitis

ALA UNIT 327 PRESIDENT:  Happy October Ladies, This is a very busy month for us.  As always, we would like to get a 100% MEMBERSHIP this year, and we need your help to do that.  If you haven’t paid your dues yet and would like to, you can mail them or leave them behind the bar or see Cindy or me.  On October 7th, the dinner for VA&R will be Pork Loin.  Attention ladies, the “Southern Gentlemen” dancers will be back on Friday, October 14th.  Tickets will be on sale Saturday, October 1st at $5.00 for members and $8.00 for non-members.  OUR VETS will be here for the Fish Fry on October 21st at 5:00 p.m.  We need all the help we can get.  We also need desserts.  I am sorry to say there will not be a Halloween dance this year due to the fact of NO participation.  Remember to watch for the children on Halloween night.  I would like to thank everyone who baked for the Bake Sale on 10 September.  It was a very good turn out.  For God and Country, Dawn Thomas

PAST PRESIDENTS:  Joyce Kelly and I would like to say a super big “THANK YOU” to everyone who baked for the bake sale on Saturday, 10 September.  It was a huge success, making $211.35 for the Past President’s Parley Charity.  We’ve heard it was the largest amount ever made, and that’s because of YOU!  It just proves Unit 327 and the Post have great members.  Thank you all again.  For God and Country, Gloria Samson and Joyce Kelly.

SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER:  Hello members.  I hope everyone is doing fine.  The “Oyster Roast” and clam dinner will be held on 12 November from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  Tickets are $15.00.  The Junior’s installation was very nice.  Membership is doing well, but please try to renew if you haven’t done so.  Help is always needed with weekend ticket sales.  Please spare a couple of hours and help sell tickets for any of the organizations.  Remember, these sales are one way we receive funds for our charities.  We will post flyers for the upcoming USS WISCONSIN night.  Dinner was excellent, good job guys!  For God and Country, Dave Samson

ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT:  Well, I hope everyone had a good summer.  Are you ready for some football?  We are trying to adjust the clubroom temperature so everyone will be comfortable.  Just remember this is a tough building to cool and heat on the spur of the moment with a change in temperature outside.  Customers in the clubroom PLEASE leave the remotes behind the bar.  Ask the Bar Manager to make a change of channel or volume and he or she will be glad to help.  For God and Country, Jim Norton

CLUB MANAGER:  Hello everyone.  Lunches will be served Monday through Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. starting 3 October.  The Friday night dinner schedule is:  7 Oct – Pork Loin for VA&R, 14 Oct – New England Boiled dinner, 21 Oct – Vet’s Fish Fry, and 28 Oct – Beef Tips over noodles.  Please be patient with our volunteer cooks.  We only cook for 40 people on Friday night.  Dinner starts at 6:00 p.m., and sometimes our meals sell out prior to 7:00 p.m., so get your order in early if you want to take it home.  Prices will vary from $5.00 and up depending on what’s being served.  Also, on 28 October, we will have a 3-piece band “Certified Acoustics” from 7:00 p.m. until?

EDITOR:  We had an outstanding Labor Day picnic because of an excellent job done by all of you who helped.  Let’s see if we can get a 100% membership before the due date.  We achieved our membership goal for September 2005, but we are still shy 64 renewals to make our 5 October goal.  If you haven’t done so, PLEASE RENEW your membership and help us meet our Department goal for October!
