MAY 2005
COMMANDER’S CORNER: How is my Legionnaire family? It seems like every month we have to start out talking about MEMBERSHIP. Well, this month is no exception. Please help me put this baby to sleep and move on to other projects. We are at 91% of our membership goal and about 120 short for the year. Our 1st Vice Commander is really working hard to make this happen. So, if you still have a card with 2004 on it, then you need to contact the 1st vice Commander, Lee Hemmerich, or one of the other Post Officers to renew.
As you know, we had the Veterans from the VA Hospital over on the 22nd of April for some fun and relaxation. As always, everyone enjoyed the visit. Don’t miss the VA County Fair at the VA Hospital in Hampton on Wednesday, the 11th of May at noon.
The Awards night was a big success. I would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting it. I would also like to congratulate this years LEGIONNAIRE OF THE YEAR, Mr. Jim Pearson, for being selected. His hard work for our Post has been evident throughout the year, and this award is a small “THANK YOU” FROM OUR post to Jim. Next time you see him, please give him your personal thanks for his hard work.
If you would like to see a fine piece of work, visit http://www.legion327.org, OUR web page. There is “TONS” of good links for the Veteran to go to. Any suggestions for improvement or other links that we might add are welcome. Just leave a note in the “guest book”, and we will take it for action. This is a CRY FOR HELP! Anyone having computer skills in web page building and the use of Microsoft FrontPage that would like to be the assistant Webmaster, please contact Ken Loomer at 583-5655. The reason I’m asking for this is so that more than one person at Post knows how to make the changes on our web page.
This is the third and final NOTICE for the POST ELECTIONS on May 10th at the next Post meeting. All persons who wish to ‘STEP UP TO THE PLATE” and help our Post in the coming year should contact anyone on the nominating committee and express their wishes. The nominating committee consists of Past Commanders, W.T. Jones, John Schenk, and Ken Loomer. For God and Country, Otha Newton

Let’s try to reach 100% by the end of May. We are all in need of help with weekend tickets. PLEASE try to give a few hours of your time. ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT: Please adhere to the new NO PARKING areas in out parking lot. The end spot to the left as you walk out of the front door is not a parking area. Also, the last spot as you leave the parking lot at the back of the Legion is not a parking spot. We did not do this to take away parking spots but for safety reasons. If you park in these spots you will be asked to move your auto. We have a check policy in effect, which states no checks will be cashed prior to 4:00 p.m. We would like to get out of the check cashing business, and the board of directors is looking for a way to do this and still keep you, the customer, happy. We have a safe the Association would like to sell. It is a small safe in excellent condition and would be great at home for personal use. We will take sealed bids until the Memorial Day Picnic, and the highest bid will get the safe. If you would like to see the safe please see Sandi, our club manager, or me. With summer fast approaching, please remember our dress code after 9:00 p.m. in the Club Room. Dress code is available in the lobby of the Club Room. For God and Country, Jim Norton
EDITOR: I thought you might enjoy this email as much as I did. May God bless our Vets. A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian, and French navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a group of half a dozen or so officers that included personnel from most of the countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks, but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, “Why is it that we always have to speak English at these conferences rather than speaking French?” Without hesitating, the American admiral replied, “Maybe it’s because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies, and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.” Suddenly, the group became very quiet.”
