JULY 2006
COMMANDER’S CORNER: Hello. As we start out with a new band of Post officers, I would like to thank those who served the past year for the great job they did. I would also like to thank those who braved the rain and wind for our Flag Day ceremony. The officers and I are here to get the job done, and with your help, we can “get ‘er done.” The Post 327 kitchen is used to prepare meals for fundraisers. All receipts for each meal will be given to the Finance Officer for filing and accounting purposes. Proceeds from the sales go to sponsoring several programs such as Children and Youth, Boys State, Oratorical Contests, Legion Baseball, Veterans and their families, and several charities, etc. Don’t forget anyone working in the kitchen must have a current food handler’s card. For God and Country, Mary Lee Lupejkis
FIRST VICE COMMANDER: Membership is currently 1116 members at 89%. It is really disappointing that we did not make 100%. I will be doing membership at the picnic on Sunday, July 2nd and you can get your Early Bird stamp so that you may eat for free at the Labor Day picnic. Hope to see all of you there. For God and Country, Byron Pianalto.
SECOND VICE COMMANDER: The July 4th picnic will be held on Sunday, July 2nd. Menu will be hot and mild sausages, bratwurst, hamburgers, hotdogs, baked beans, and potato salad. Covered dishes are welcomed. Children under five years old and those who bring covered dishes will eat free. Adults: $5.00. Cost for children five and older: $3.00. Please join us for good food, entertainment, and fun. For God and Country, Johnnie A. Maples, II
AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY PRESIDENT: Hello Ladies. Well July is here, and the new membership cards are here. Please come in and renew your 2007 membership and be an “Early Bird”. Early Birds eat free at the Labor Day picnic. It’s very important that we get our 100% membership dues early so we can get them to the Department early. Dinner for Friday, July 7th will be a Tuna/Chicken Salad Cold plate. Proceeds go to Girl’s State. Some of us will be at the State Convention in Richmond from 6-9 July 06. I will give the report in August. There will not be a meeting in July. I want to thank all the people who were in the show in June. A “SPECIAL” THANKS to Pat Felce for being the DJ for the show, and the Softball Team for the spaghetti sauce, and everyone else. Don’t forget our July 4th picnic will be held on Sunday, 2 July. Thanks so much. For God and Country, Dawn Thomas
SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER: Hello Everyone. Well it’s another new year for membership. Let’s all try to get our 2007 membership early so we can get a 100% or better. Renew before Labor Day picnic and eat for free (EARLY BIRD). PLEASE check the menu board for upcoming dinners in July. Ticket help is always needed. Please spare a couple of hours of your time and help with this fundraiser. Thank you to all officers and volunteers for your help. For God and Country, Dave Samson for Brooke Gillespie
SQUADRON 2nd VICE CDR: Chesapeake Bay MS Challenge Walk – On 16-17 September, more than 500 men and women will show their commitment and courage in the face of a Challenge. They will be walking 50k in two days from Annapolis to Baltimore, as participants. Each participant has pledged to raise at least $1,500 in the fight against Multiple Sclerosis. Many have set their goal even higher. Your company can support the tremendous efforts of these individuals with a contribution towards their personal fundraising goals. And, if you give $250 +, the National MS Society will recognize your gift with a mile marker on the route. For more information, please contact Don Klugh at 450-2141. He’s also selling raffle tickets and cooking a Seafood Dinner to benefit MS at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, 21 July 2006.
PAST POST COMMANDER: Commander, Officers, and members, I feel certain the newly elected Post officers will continue the outstanding job that has been done in the past. If I can be of any help, please let me know. Reminder: The 15th Annual Crab/Seafood Fest, sponsored by the 5 Families of Oceanview on Saturday, July 15th, will be held from noon ‘til 7:00 p.m. Each club is being asked for at least 4 people to assist in tearing down the equipment at 7 p.m. It should take no longer than 45 minutes. Post 327 is tasked to sell the beer tickets from noon-6:30 p.m. Profits from the Fest will be split evenly by each of the 5 clubs. Hopefully, we’ll have a great turnout for this event. For God and Country, Jim Spradlin

EDITOR: I want to thank all of you who attended the Post, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion installation of officers on the 27th of June. Also, thank you for your support this past year. I look forward to your support again this year. Even though we had to brave the wet and windy weather, the Flag Day Ceremony went very well. A special thanks to the Bugler, MU2 Aaron M. Deaton, U.S. Navy and to Jim McCormack from Post 280 for playing Bagpipes at our Flag Day Disposal Ceremony on Tuesday, 14 June 2006. Also, thanks to the reporters for doing an article on the ceremony in The Virginian-Pilot.
NOTE: In order to save money for the Post, we are trying to cut down on postage. We need your help to do this. For those of you who have internet service, please visit our website at http://www.legion327.org and print your copy of the newsletter. Please let me know if that’s how you would like to receive the newsletter so I can take your name off of our mailing list to save on postage. You may contact me at amlg327@yahoo.com (Attn: B.J.)
