Back JULY 2005 COMMANDER’S CORNER: Hello. As we start out with a new band of Post officers, I would like to thank those who served the past year for the great job they did. I would also like to thank those who braved the heat for our Flag Day ceremonies. My officers and I are here to get the job done, and with your help, we can “get ‘er done.” The Post 327 Commander’s kitchen is used to prepare meals for fundraisers, not for personal profit. Proceeds from the sales go to sponsoring several programs such as Children and Youth, Boys State, Girls State, Bowling Teams, Over 50 Softball Team, Juniors, etc. If you would like to volunteer your time to help with the preparation of these meals, please see the Club Manager, Sandra Wright. For God and Country, Jim Dunning FIRST VICE COMMANDER: Greetings, Fellow Legionnaires. We’ll be having our dinner on July 8th. The first Friday in August, we’ll serve a cold plate dinner with proceeds going to Girl’s State. Don’t forget our July 4th picnic and our meeting on the 5th at 8:00 PM. I’m looking forward to working with everyone this year. For God and Country, Dawn Thomas SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER: Hello Everybody. PLEASE RENEW your membership!! Let’s try to reach 100%. PLEASE try to give a few hours of your time to help with weekend tickets. For God and Country, Dave Samson PAST POST COMMANDER: Commander, Officers, and members, I regret not being able to attend your meeting on June 14th. I feel certain the newly elected Post officers will continue the outstanding job that has been done in the past. If I can be of any help, please let me know. Reminder: the 14th Annual Crab/Seafood Fest, sponsored by the 5 Families of Oceanview on July 16th, will be held from noon ‘til 7:00 PM. Each club is being asked for at least 4 people to assist in tearing down the equipment at 7 PM. It should take no longer than 45 minutes. Post 327 is tasked to sell the beer tickets from noon-6:30 PM. Profits from the Fest will be split evenly by each of the 5 clubs. Last year was the largest Fest ever, and hopefully, this year will be even better. For God and Country, Jim Spradlin EDITOR: I want to thank all of you who attended the Post, American Legion Auxiliary, and Sons of the American Legion installation of officers on the 14th of June. Thank you for voting for me as your Post Adjutant. I will try my best to do a good job for you, but I’ll need your help. We all braved the very hot weather for the Flag Day Ceremony, and then went on to a Post Everlasting for our dear departed comrade, Larry Flannagan. I’ve known Larry for at least 25 years, and it was a sad occasion for me, as are all Post Everlastings. Although the evening was a long one, it was a real learning experience for me. Support your Clubroom and weekly dinners. Let’s all be early birds and start the new commander off on the right foot. I know he would like to take a 100% membership to the Department Convention on the 14th of July. For God and Country, Jim Norton CORRECTION to June 2005 Newsletter: A special thanks to Ray Steckman (not Speckman) for donating the radio he won at Post 327. He requested it be raffled off with the proceeds going to Boys and Girls State. HUMOR: A man left work one Friday afternoon, and being payday, instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend partying with the boys and spending his entire week’s wages. When he finally appeared at home on Sunday night, he was confronted by a very angry wife and barraged for nearly two hours with a tirade befitting his actions. Finally, his wife stopped the nagging and simply said to him, “How would you like it if you didn’t see me for two or three days?” To this he replied, “That would be fine with me.” Monday went by and he didn’t see his wife. Tuesday and Wednesday came and went with the same results. Come Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye. For God and Country, B.J. Miller-Nobles.
