JANUARY 2006

COMMANDER’S CORNER:  Hope this finds everyone in good health after the holidays.  New keys will be on sale at the Post on 1 January.  To purchase a new key, you must have a 2006 membership card, don’t have one???  Not to worry!  We will be set up to renew your membership and sell you a new key.  It’s a new year, and I haven’t said it since last year.  MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP, MEMBERSHIP!  We are way short of our 100% goal and all of our hard work may for naught without the membership.  So, PLEASE RENEW.  For God and Country, Jim Dunning

1st VICE COMMANDER:  Our membership is at approx. 68% of our goal.  Please renew ASAP and help us meet our goal.  Thank you.  For God and Country, Byron Pianalto

2ND VICE COMMANDERNo input.  For God and Country, Todd Baitis.

ALA UNIT 327 PRESIDENT: The new year is going to start off with a bang, I pray.  As everyone knows, your membership dues are due NOW.  We would like to get our 100% by the 31st of this month, and we need your help.  Please renew as soon as possible.  The children’s Christmas party was a hit.  There were a lot of smiling children and lots of fun had by all.  I would like to thank all the “elves” who helped out.  This was a lot of work, and without all of your help, we would not have been able to do it.  So, thanks again.  Thanks to all who took an angel from our Christmas tree.  I’m sure you put a smile on your angel’s face.  Our meeting will be on Tuesday, the 3rd of January.  The January 6th Friday night dinner will be steamed shrimp.  On Friday, the 3rd of February, Jim Martin will prepare chicken and noodles.  The Valentine’s Day Dinner/dance will be held on Saturday, February 11th.  Tickets will be on sale behind the bar.  For God and Country, Dawn Thomas

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED:  From the results of Hurricane Katrina devastation on the Mississippi gulf coast in the Biloxi area, there were eleven children whose families lost everything.  Members of Post 280 got together and are storing clothing or any goods that can be donated to go directly to these families; delivery by U-Haul.  There is a poster on the entrance door to the Clubroom stating the clothes sizes of all the children.  PLEASE HELP!  You may call me at 681-1866.  For God and Country, Jim Pearson.

SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER:  Hello everyone.  I hope everybody had a very nice Christmas and will enjoy the incoming year.  Membership is doing very well, but please remember that without a 2006 card you cannot get a new door key.  The Sons of the American Legion will be doing a spaghetti dinner on Friday, January 20th.  Please look for the menu on the board.  We wish all a happy new year.  Please don’t forget the ones that will not be with us.  They will not be forgotten.  For God and Country, Dave Samson

Pool Tournaments will start the Friday, the 6th of January 2006 at 7:30 p.m.  See Byron Pianalto for details.

HUMOR:  “BE VERY, VERY QUIET” – A father and son went hunting together for the first time.  The father said to his son:  “Stay here and be very QUIET.  I’ll be across the field.”  A few minutes later, the father heard a blood-curdling scream and ran back to his son.  “What’s wrong?” the father asked.  “I told you to be quiet.”  The boy, bless his heart, answered:  “Look, I was quiet when the snake slithered across my feet.  I was quiet when the bear breathed down my neck.  I didn’t move a muscle when the skunk climbed over my shoulder.  I closed my eyes and held my breath when the wasp stung me.  I didn’t cough when I swallowed the gnat.  I didn’t cuss or scratch when the poison oak started itching, but when the two squirrels crawled up my pant legs and said, “Should we eat them here or take them with us?” “Well, I guess I panicked.”

May God bless each of you with good health and prosperity now and throughout the years to come.  For God and Country, B.J. Miller-Nobles
