FIRST VICE COMMANDER: Membership renewals are in desperate need to achieve our goal for this year. We still have several members who have not renewed. We need to remember that your membership helps our fellow Veterans and to maintain the programs of the American Legion.  Membership is currently at 84%. Please renew your membership for 2009 if you have not already done so.  Sign up your neighbor, your cohort at work, or the person sitting beside you at the PTA meeting.  We need your help to meet our 100% goal. For God and Country, “Skip” Kelly

SECOND VICE COMMANDER: January was a busy month for our Legion Family.  Great job to all who joined in, from meetings to district events, to our annual Law and Order Honors Banquet. I hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time. Our next event will be the Memorial Day picnic. I hope to see you there.  For God and Country, Mike Bukowski

CHAPLAIN: We will have Post Everlasting Tuesday, 10Feb09 at 8 p.m. for Legionnaires Henry Driver and  Richard Durand. Family and friends are invited to attend.  For God and Country, Rob Edwards

LEGION RIDERS: As we begin another year, we reflect back on the past year and what can be changed. We are going to be working hard to support other local Legion Riders groups. We have gained two new members and lost two members. Our membership is currently 14 members. Welcome Pat Carney and Alan Lawson. Farewell John Stanford and Lloyd Gorski. We are currently working with the Sons on the upcoming Poker Run. Come out and support both associations for a good time.  We will be riding in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade again this year.  For God and Country, Jim Hollenbeck

ATHLETIC OFFICER: American Legion Post 327 will host the 2009 American Legion State Bowling Tournament the 28th of February and 1st of March at the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, Norfolk, VA. Gator Bowling Lanes. We are expecting around 150 to 200 out-of-town legionnaires.  There will be a meeting of all volunteers for the tournament on the 8th of February at 5:00 p.m. in the meeting hall.  You don’t have to know anything about bowling to be a volunteer, just be willing to help.  A good example about not knowing anything about a bowling tournament is the tournament director.  Seriously, we cannot run a tournament statewide without volunteers.  One to three people cannot do everything.  So, Please sign the volunteer sheet which is hanging on the hall door and also on the bulletin board outside the restrooms.  (That’s the HEADS for you sailors).  Also, we are still looking for some door prizes, nothing real big, just something they can take home with them.  If you would all look around your home between now and the 15th of February 2009 and see if you have anything you might have received for XMAS or Birthday that you will never use.  Please bring them into the Clubroom and give it to Post Commander or one of her officers, or the Auxiliary President or Vice President, and I’m sure they will save it for the tournament.  For God and Country, Jim Norton.

CHILDREN & YOUTH:  We would like to thank Nancy Bell, Joyce Kelly, Sam & Donna Huffman, and Russ & Suzy Abrams for all their hard work during the holidays, and everyone else who participated in the Children & Youth programs.  For God and Country, Jim Dunning & Dawn Thomas

ALA PRESIDENT:  Hello Ladies.  February is here already, and we have a busy month ahead of us.  Don’t’ forget our meeting on February 3rd at 8:00 p.m.  On the 6th we are having a Manicotti dinner with salad, bread, and dessert.  We also have tickets that weekend.  Anyone interested in helping with tickets , please call me at 583-8603.  On the 7th our Juniors are having their annual chili cook-off and bake sale from noon until 6:00 p.m.  February 13th is our Valentine’s steak dinner, and on the 20th the Juniors are having beef stew for dinner.  On Saturday, 28 February we will have a steak dinner for the bowling tournament.  Please join us and don’t forget to renew your membership if you haven’t already done so.  For God and Country, Nancy Bell

SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER:  Greetings Comrades! I hope all of you will join me in supporting our new President. Whether or not you voted for him, I think we can all agree that any change will be good for the country. Let’s just hope everyone in Washington can come together for the good of all of us. I would like to thank everyone who came out to our January meeting. It was the largest turnout in a long time. Please continue to come and invite a fellow member to join with us. Thanks to everyone who helped with our Friday night dinner. It was a great success, and we sold out 60 subs in record time. Our next dinner will be in March. Also, thanks to everyone who helped with ticket sales where we also had record giveaways. Congratulations to all the winners. We have a lot of activities in the planning stage coming up. In March we are planning another St. Patty’s Day Massacre Boxing Match. This will be a fundraiser to help us build a new playground for our children. We are shooting for March 21st with tickets at $10.00 each. Look for posters around the club as soon as we get everything set. We also are working with the Legion Riders to join with us for our annual Poker Run. Info to be out shortly.  After that we are talking about a Comedy Night, so as you can see we have a lot planned for this summer. Come one and all and get involved in the support of these functions. For God and Country, Steve Gower, Sr.

EDITOR:  From my email:  Tricare for Life (TFL) may be on Obama’s chopping block in the near future.  Please go to OMB website http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=9925, double click on the URL, click on PDF, click on the binoculars, and do a search for TFL.  On page 189 of the Congressional Budget Office report there is a strong recommendation to the elimination of this program which is just another move to slight those of us who dedicated much of our lives to the defense of our country.  Please contact your elected officials and register your strong opposition to cut this program.  It would have a devastating effect on all retiree’s medical benefits.  May God bless each and every one of you with good health and happiness.  For God and Country, B.J. Miller
