FIRST VICE COMMANDER:  Renewals have really started coming in for this coming year.  We ended the 2009 year with 96% at 1,066 members, but we were 4% short.  So, we will just try harder in 2010.  Don’t ever give up on the Legion.  The Post will pay a member’s membership for the next year for a Legionnaire who recruits the most new members between July 1, 2009 and April 15th, 2010. It will be awarded at Awards Night in April 2010.  Every Legionnaire can recruit a member, better yet, recruit a renewal or someone who may have let their membership lapse.  For God and Country, Jerry Mason

SECOND VICE COMMANDER:   The 4th of July picnic was quite an event, the volunteers were outstanding totaling 32, and we are looking forward to seeing all of you at the upcoming Labor Day picnic.  We do need feedback from you to make these events a family affair with fun and fellowship for everyone, remember that your comments at the bar are not worth a dime but they are worth a million dollars at the meetings when the decisions are made.  For God and Country, Larry Turner

CHAPLAIN:    Post Everlasting will be held on Tuesday, 11 August 09 at 8:00 p.m. for Charlie “Sonny” Bryant and John G. Arnold, Jr.  Family and friends are invited to attend.  For God and Country, Rob Edwards

ALA PRESIDENT:  Hello Ladies, the turn out for the 4th of July membership was good. If you pay your dues before the Labor Day picnic you will receive the “Early Bird” Stamp to eat free, so do not forget to renew your membership.  The Department Convention was a great success. Your hard work brought home two prestigious awards, we received the Meritorious Citation and the Dr. Kate Waller Barrett Award for the most outstanding Unit in Virginia. Out of 139 Units, we got it.   Remember our Dinner August 7th.  For God and Country, Nancy Bell

SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER:  Greetings Comrades, Sorry about not having membership cards at the July picnic but Department of Virginia messed up. However, Dave now has them and is looking for your “early bird” renewals. News from the State Convention; Jeff Evans was elected to serve 2 years as our National Executive Committeeman. I was appointed to serve as our Detachment Historian again this year. Also, I'm pleased to say your squadron again took top honors in winning the Children and Youth Award for large Squadrons. Our next one will be in September. We still would like some new faces to come and help with dinner or tickets! Jeff and I will be going to the National Convention in August and will report back with any news for our Squadron or Detachment. For God and Country, Steve Gower Sr.

CLUB MANAGER:  Just a few reminders:  If you have a locker please use it!!  This frees up space behind the bar for members who do have a locker - with the number of members and limited storage putting your bottle in your locker will help tremendously.  Also, remember there is a limit of two (2) bottles per member behind the bar.  Name and date MUST be on ALL bottles brought into the Club and MUST be updated every ninety (90) days - this is your responsibility.  Any bottle not updated will be disposed of.  Remember name and current date is an ABC regulation.  This applies to any bottle behind the bar AND in lockers.  No outside food allowed on days that snacks, dinner, or breakfast is served.  For God and Country, Sandra Wright

For Homeowners:  First-time homebuyer credit – If you bought your first home in 2009 (before 30 November) you may be eligible for a refundable credit of up to $8,000.00, and the credit does not have to be repaid unless the home is sold or is no longer your main home within three years of purchase.  You can claim the 2009 first-time home buyer credit on your 2008 or 2009 return.  Energy credits:  The credit for energy efficient home improvements such as windows, doors, furnaces and central air conditioners is back for 2009.  The credit is up to $1,500.00.  Provided by H&R Block, 144 E. EDITOR:   FYI, in order to reduce the cost of mailing the newsletter, the Post has decided to mail them bi-monthly starting with the SEP-OCT 2009 newsletter. It would be great if you would send your email address to us so we could email the newsletter to you instead of mailing it.  If we could get half of you to receive it via email, we might be able to publish monthly in the future. You would receive it much quicker than through the regular mail.  The Legion email address is amlg327@yahoo.com.  For God & Country, B. J. Miller
