AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
PRESIDENT:
April is here, and we are almost to
the end of the Auxiliary year. Ladies, we have accomplished our
100% goal in membership, thanks to your help. The Vets will be here
on the 4th for Salisbury Steak dinner. We will need help
as well as desserts. You know they love all those sweets. The
Juniors have breakfast the fourth Sunday. Thanks to all who
attended our 60th Anniversary Party. We were so happy that you all
could make our special night. I hope everyone enjoyed it. Ladies,
our reports are due by May 1st, so if you have any
community service hours you need to report them. Please see Lee
Forest. SECOND
NOTICE of Elections
for the ALA on May 6th. If you are planning to run for an office,
please let Cathy Rook, Sharon Bukowski, or Rose Pearson know. Also,
thanks to all who attended the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. We had a
very nice turn out. Way to go Juniors, you did a great job.
For God and Country, Dawn Thomas
SQUADRON 327 COMMANDER:
Greetings Comrades! A
special thanks to all who helped out with the Bowling Tournament
dinner and festivities. What a site to see, so many S.A.L. members
working together for a common goal. We were able to raise over one
thousand dollars to go toward our Legion Programs. I would also
like to thank all of the Post and Auxiliary members for their help.
It just shows how much good we can do when we all work together.
Parents, I'm glad to see that you all are doing such a fine job
raising your children. I only had 3 people sign up for the Scared
Straight Program at the Norfolk City Jail, with only 1 showing up to
go. I would be happy to try this again if I get enough parents to
back the program. It’s time again for the 2nd Annual S.A.L. POKER
RUN. The run is scheduled for Sunday, July 27th. Starting point
not yet been set, but we will end again at Knuckleheads Roadhouse
for the Live Auction and after party. Anyone who can help with
getting donations for the auction from local merchants and
restaurants would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to
invite The Legion Riders to participate in any way they can. To the
Legion Auxiliary, what a great job you all did with the 60th
Anniversary Party. Thanks for including the S.A.L. It looked like
a good time was had by all. I'm not sure, but I think I even saw
Vinny on the dance floor holding his own with 5 ladies. There has
been a lot of discussion going on about letting the Auxiliary and
Sons participate in the Association meetings. Let’s keep the dialog
open and maybe we can address this after the elections. FIRST
NOTICE! Elections will be held at the June Regular Meeting. We
need some new faces and ideas! Anyone interested, please give your
name to any
officer. For God and
Country, Steve Gower, Sr.
ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT: I want to welcome the new board members. With your full support we will have a productive year. Anyone who has a suggestion or complaint must put their suggestion or complaint in writing addressed to the board of directors. There is a box in the entryway for members to leave their suggestions or complaints. On a different note: Remember, you and you alone are responsible for the conduct and actions of any guest you sign into the clubroom. For God and Country, Jim Martin
PAST ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT: The Virginia 2008 American Legion State Bowling Tournament is HISTORY. I’m sure the regulars are glad to see them go. However, if I have to say so myself, I think the Bowling Committee did an outstanding job and deserve a BZ. I don’t like thanking individuals because someone surely gets left out, but this time I feel a need to try. I am going to try to take up some of B. J.’s space with some names of good people – Jeff, W.T., Jim D., Jim P., Skip who, Tony C., Jerry, Bob, Debbie and Catherine for your help in the office, Big John and Ron for the driving Godfather and for getting the vans, and, of course, Hall’s Auto, Red Hot Mama and her crew on the grab bags and of course the raffle ladies, Mrs. Korchek, B.J., Rose, Joyce, Susie, DeDee & Jeannie. How about the GREAT food? Thanks Auxiliary, Sons, and both the “50 & Over” Softball Team and 40/8. The Easter baskets were so cute, thanks Doreen and Stephanie. Last, but not least, Post CDR for all his work on verification. For God and Country, Jim Norton
ASSOCIATION CLUB MANAGER: Please call the Club (587-2641) for dinners and entertainment that are not on the calendar. For God and Country, Sandra Wright
HUMOR: From my email: Flynn staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy, Paddy. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Mary. He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around, and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful. Managing not to yell, Flynn sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of Band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each place he saw blood. He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed. In the morning, Flynn woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Mary staring at him from across the room. She said, "You were drunk again last night weren't you?" Flynn said, "Why would you say such a mean thing?" "Well, "Mary said, "it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly.... it’s all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror.
EDITOR: I hope everyone had a great time at the ALA 60th Anniversary. I know I did. The Ladies outdid themselves with delicious food, beautiful decorations, and great music. Thanks to everyone who helped me with the Post dinner on Friday, 21 March; Our Chef, Tommy Turner, and helpers Sharon Bukowski, Victoria Bell, Susie, and Bob Durand. The 55th Annual Azalea Parade will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 19 April at Waterside. Note for Post Committee Chairmen: Please provide your annual reports to me by May 1st for our Consolidated reports. I need you to report any community service hours and all expenses/contributions that you have made throughout the year. If you need help, please see me for details. For God and Country, B.J. Miller-Nobles
