EDITORCarl Carney received a letter from Josephine F. Cole of the Northside Civic League.  Her 32-year old son, Michael, is going through extensive chemotherapy to treat his non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer.  At the end of his 30-day hospital stay, he will need an Adult Stem Cell Transplant that his brother, Eddie, will provide since he’s a perfect match.  This transplant is Michael’s only hope for a future.  He is unable to work to support himself and his 5-year old daughter.  Mrs. Cole is asking for donations to help her son with the medical expenses that will be over $201,500.00, and insurance won’t cover.  If you would like to make a donation, please go to any Bank of America and make a deposit to the Michael Cole Transplant Fund or mail the donation to Michael Cole Transplant Fund, c/o Bank of America, 1801 Greenbrier Parkway, Chesapeake, VA. 23320, Account # 004350680927, TAX ID#51-0560536.  List the TIN # on this account when you use this as a charitable deduction on your income tax.  Any other suggestions for raising money for Michael’s expenses are more than welcome.  Thank you from Michael’s family and may you receive many blessings in return.

The 88th Annual National American Legion Convention will convene August 29th, 2006 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The American Legacy Run, led by National Commander Tom Bock, will kick off near the Legion’s National Headquarters in Indianapolis on the evening of August 17th.  Riders from the East coast and Midwest will join for a fundraising rally sponsored by the American Legion Riders of Indiana.  The rider’s goal is to raise $100,000 for the American Legacy Scholarship Fund to ensure that higher education will be a reality for the children our military personnel left behind as an unfortunate consequence of America’s war on terrorism.  Tom Bock also asks American Legion Posts and bike riders from all over the country to conduct a fundraising effort on behalf of the American Legacy Scholarship Fund.  Registration will soon be available at www.americanlegacyrun.org.  The REGISTRATION FEES, not donations, will offset the costs of the American Legacy Run.  For more information, please contact Bill Sloan, national liaison, American Legion Riders, Indianapolis, Indiana, (317) 630-1321 or email wsloan@legion.org.

HUMOR:  A lady in her late 40’s went to a plastic surgeon for a facelift.  The Dr. told her of a new procedure called “The Knob”.  This small knob is planted on the back of a woman’s head and can be turned to tighten up the skin to produce the effect of a brand new facelift forever.  Of course, the woman wanted “The Knob.”  Fifteen years later the woman went back to the surgeon with two problems.  She told the Dr. “All these years everything had been working just fine.  I’ve had to turn the knob on lots of occasions, and I’ve loved the results.  But now, I’ve developed two annoying problems.  First of all, I’ve got these terrible bags under my eyes, and “The Knob” won’t get rid of them.”  The doctor looked at her and said, “Lady, these aren’t bags, these are your breasts.”  She replied, “Well, I guess that explains the goatee.”  God bless America.  For God and Country, B.J. Miller-Nobles
